Wow, we can only pick one?? I had to say the last scene purely based on the fact that that's the scene I've watched the most. My second favorite would be either the riot or Thornton visiting Higgins "you'd have been more civil" scene.

You couldn't possibly let us pick more than one, could you?

I chose "Thornton's dinner party / Hot Victorian handshake" for something different - it was an 'interesting' scene, and although some of the other scenes were very good (Train Scene, Look Back, etc)...I decided to be different... ::)

If only Slickson hadn't interupted.... ;)

Great Site Elvira! Has LOTS of potential! I'll be back! :) (Oh, no!! you say.... :D)

I voted for the "Overbearing master" ;) It's so incredibly suggestive and slightly unexpected at that point in the series. Also because it's closely connected with my favourite line "You're ill?"

Oh GOD I love them all! To choose only one ... well, if I'm limited to just one scene, it has to be the end train station scene, because I've never seen anything quite like it and nothing has ever moved me as much. But the overbearing master is a VERY close second. ;)

Well ... I did vote for the train scene because the directing, cinematography .... blah blah ::) ... kidding : the scene was rendering and I loved the performance of both actors. It was a wonderful end to a wonderful story.

However, if given the chance to choose a runner-up :P I also liked the "Look back at me" scene ... so powerful !

Thanks ladies! Great responses!

I never did elaborate on my vote. I voted for "overbearing master." I consider the "You're ill?" line to be part of that scene (close enough, anyway), and I love "You're ill?" The whole scene is great, though—the first time they really have a civil discussion and you can see he's really enjoying it.

I like them all... but... if I have to choose - it's very difficult... - I can vote for the scene in which Mrs. Thorthon speaks to John encouraging him to declare... In this scene John character, for me, shows all his vulnerability.

I choose the train station scene on first impulse ... (how could I not?). Thinking about it a little more, my mind turned to wonderful several scenes in 4th episode. There were the scenes between Nicholas and Mr. Thornten in which you saw JT 's character grow as he began to see what the worker's lives were like (remember his walking through the dirty streets to Nicholas's house and handing the little girl a coin). Then the conversations the two have in the worker's dining hall. And of course towards the end when Nicholas reveal's the existance of MT's brother.

These may not be the sexiest scenes, but I love the way we get to see JT's character grow and what would have to be his greater appreciation (and love) of Margaret and her compassion for the workers.

That' all

I voted for the train station scene because I watch it more, but I really can't choose between that and the scene where JT and Mum discuss his plan to propose.

EEK! Only 1?!?

I think you should have left off the train station scene since with it in the running, it is sure to win.

I did chose the train station scene... I mean... seriously... [image] ... 'nuff said. [image]

BTW... I DO NOT like being called "a Latimer." [image] Looks like I need to do something about that. [image]

I am tempted to go for the train station (for reasons which I'm sure need no explanation here!), but I've decided to plump for 'look back at me' instead. There is something so beautiful and moving about the way that scene is shot, the snow and the empty mill yard (oh, and the rather attractive guy in the undertaker suit...)

I would also like to pop in a mention for Margarets first view of the Mill - not the beating, but the bit where she enters the room and all the cotton is floating around - I find it sort of otherwordly in an odd way. Very pretty anyway, and DDA looks almost cherubic in that scene. (Why do I seem to like all the scenes with floaty white stuff in them?)

I completely agree! Love it! JT just looks so thoroughly concerned and tormented at the thought of MH being ill. I also love the scenes at the very beginning of episodes 2, 3 and 4, just because that music is so amazing! It's tragic the BBC won't release a soundtrack. :'(
